Birmingham Energy Savers (BES) is one of the most ambitious Solar PV frameworks in the country and was formulated by Birmingham City Council. Where many struggled to scale, BES Phase 2 has delivered more than 1000 installations in a 6 month period and is still going strong. The focus of the project was to help lift council tenants out of fuel poverty. This comes in two ways, firstly the reduced electricity bills for the tenants and secondly the profits from the feed-in-tariff income are being invested into energy efficiency measures to help reduce bills further.
EH Smith have been involved in both phases of BES, initially supplying Thomas Vale and New World Solar with panels and inverters and going on to supply some inverters and all of the mounting kit to Phase 2 working with G Purchase Construction. It was no mean feat to keep the scheme running through a global supply shortage, but BES managed to accelerate during this time.
""EH Smith have been a key part of the Birmingham Energy Savers supply chain, supplying solar modules, inverters and the most technically complex component; the roof mounting kit. We have greatly valued their support in facilitating access to the best components available at competitive prices. EH Smith's support was particularly important when the Government announced their proposed revision to the Feed in Tariff, when they worked tirelessly to secure the roof mounting kits, which allowed us to accelerate our programme at a time of severe shortage in the supply market" - Jenny Howarth, Sustainable Procurement Manager
We have been delighted to be involved in the scheme from its inception and are proud of our part in its success.
