6th July

We are delighted to announce that all of our branches (except Harborne) are OPEN to Trade & DIY.

Several branches are open as normal for Branch Collections allowing you to pop by and browse around our counters – the branches are all set up for social distancing so they may look at little different.

3rd June

Over the past few weeks we have been working with our branches to try and safely increase the level of service we can offer to our customers and the general public.

We have made great progress and today have opened more branches offering a call & collect service and have opened six branches for full counter collections.

The safety of our staff & customer continues to be our priority and we have put measures in place to ensure we are observing all of the current social distancing rules.

You will notice the branches will look a little different and we will be restricting the number of customers allowed in the counter at any one time – therefore you may be asked to wait a longer than normal.

Visit our branch locator page for the status of each branch and the contact details.

22nd May

Our Hemel Hempstead branch is now open for Pre-Ordered Collections.

Email or complete our contact us form with your requirements and the collections team will be in touch to book a time slot for you to collect your order.

Your order will be waiting for you when you arrive and all collections will be contact free.

12th May

After closely monitoring our current service we have taken the decision to open additional branches for deliveries and offer a pre-ordered collection service from selected branches.

Ensuring the safety of our staff and customers we continue to offer a very limited service to Account Customers and vital construction projects.

Deliveries & Pre-Ordered Collection branches include:
• Cannock
• Leicester
• Shirley

Delivery ONLY branches include:
• Birmingham Central
• Castle Bromwich
• Hemel Hempstead
• Longbridge
• Stourbridge
• Sutton Coldfield
• Witham

Both deliveries and pre-ordered collections will be contact-free. Our Harborne branch and all trade counters remain closed at present.

Bear with us…

Whilst we start to make plans in our branches to ensure social distancing rules are adhered to, those branches that are operating above currently have a skeleton workforce therefore, lead times may be longer than normal.

To place an order please call your local operating branch, email or complete our online contact form.

Essential Delivery? We may be able to help

We recognise there is still a need to support our account customers and the construction industry with building materials for ongoing projects.

We’re currently operating a very limited DELIVERY service from four of our larger branches to assist where we can. Due to the current social distancing policy we have a restricted number of staff working, which will result in longer lead times for deliveries. The branches facilitating essential deliveries include – Cannock, Leicester, Hemel Hempstead & Shirley.

At this moment in time we are prioritising enquiries from account customers & those with an urgent requirement. If you would like to open an account with us please visit – Trade Accounts.

Our collection service and remaining branches continue to be closed until further notice. We continue to offer a full direct-to-site service where suppliers can facilitate this.

Please see our Customer FAQs for more information.

We will do what we can to help.

If you require an essential or direct-to-site delivery, please get in touch today via email or using the contact form on our website.

30th March

Temporary Closure of EH Smith Collections & Deliveries

Even though we are classed as an essential service supplier by the Government, due to the continued risk of COVID-19 the decision has been made to temporarily close all branch operations from 5pm on 31st March 2020. We are continuing to facilitate direct-to-site deliveries where possible.

We will fulfil as many branch deliveries as we can until the close of business tomorrow. Please contact your local branch or email if you have questions over the next couple of days.

This has not been an easy decision to make. While we have been working hard over the past few weeks to follow Government guidelines and adhere to social distancing rules, we feel we need to further protect our customers, suppliers and staff.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience this will cause to many of our customers; hopefully you appreciate we have little option but to protect everyone concerned. We will continually be reviewing the situation with the aim of getting back to being fully operational as soon as possible.

I’d personally like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for their hard work and commitment over the past few weeks. Each and every member of staff has gone above and beyond to ensure a high level of service in very difficult conditions.

We hope everyone stays safe during this challenging period and look forward to serving the building industry again very soon.

John Parker, Chairman

26th March 2020

Trade Essential Deliveries Only

The COVID-19 situation continues to change on a daily basis; we are closely monitoring it to ensure the protection of our staff & customers continues to be our main priority.

The Government has clarified that Builders’ Merchants are classed as essential at this time to support maintenance and construction which is necessary for the health and wellbeing of the population.  Click here to view the Government statement.

With this in mind we have adapted our operational services by closing for customer collections and concentrating on supplying essential TRADE ENQUIRIES.

We take the health and safety of our staff, suppliers and customers extremely seriously and have introduced new ways of working implementing very strict measures across the business:

• ALL collection counters are closed

• Full closure of two (Birmingham Central & Harborne) out of 12 branches to comply with safe working

• Almost all office workers are now either working from home or are separated in accordance with Government guidelines where home working wasn’t possible

• Increased cleaning regime in all areas where staff are based

• Drivers are instructed not to ask for signatures on site, and maintain 2m distance from anyone on site. If this is not possible we support the drivers to abort the delivery

• Gloves and anti-bacterial wipes have been distributed as priority for drivers

• Social Distancing measures are to be followed strictly at all times

• We have reduced working hours to: Mon-Fri 7:30am-4pm, Sat 7:30am-12pm

We continue to review our plans on a daily basis and will post regular updates with any changes.

17th March 2020

Despite the escalating situation with COVID-19 it is very much business as usual at EH Smith to ensure an uninterrupted supply of building materials to our customers.

The welfare of our customers and staff is paramount. All branches are following strict precautions and adhering to the current UK Government policy by:

Activating social distancing

Remote working for all suitable staff

Restricted non-essential movements

Intensifying cleaning schedules

Please be assured we are closely monitoring the situation and, currently – we remain OPEN at all branches. We have made some changes which include:

• Customers may notice demarcation areas in front of the counter in order to adhere to the social distancing rules.

• We are now only accepting Card or Account payments – if you would like to apply for an account please click here

If customers are self-isolating but still require building materials, please call your local branch and use their delivery service rather than visiting the depot. Click here to find your nearest branch.

EH Smith are committed to serving the needs of the building industry as we have for nearly 100 years. It is vital that we all do our part to keep Britain building.

Many thanks for your continued support

John Parker, Chairman
