Temporary Closure of EH Smith Collections & Deliveries

Even though we are classed as an essential service supplier by the Government, due to the continued risk of COVID-19 the decision has been made to temporarily close all branch operations from 5pm on 31st March 2020. We are continuing to facilitate direct-to-site deliveries where possible.

We will fulfil as many branch deliveries as we can until the close of business tomorrow. Please contact your local branch or email info@ehsmith.co.uk if you have questions over the next couple of days.

This has not been an easy decision to make. While we have been working hard over the past few weeks to follow Government guidelines and adhere to social distancing rules, we feel we need to further protect our customers, suppliers and staff.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience this will cause to many of our customers; hopefully you appreciate we have little option but to protect everyone concerned. We will continually be reviewing the situation with the aim of getting back to being fully operational as soon as possible.

I’d personally like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for their hard work and commitment over the past few weeks. Each and every member of staff has gone above and beyond to ensure a high level of service in very difficult conditions.

We hope everyone stays safe during this challenging period and look forward to serving the building industry again very soon.

Trade Essential Deliveries Only

The COVID-19 situation continues to change on a daily basis; we are closely monitoring it to ensure the protection of our staff & customers continues to be our main priority.

The Government has clarified that Builders’ Merchants are classed as essential at this time to support maintenance and construction which is necessary for the health and wellbeing of the population.  Click here to view the Government statement.

With this in mind we have adapted our operational services by closing for customer collections and concentrating on supplying essential TRADE ENQUIRIES.

We take the health and safety of our staff, suppliers and customers extremely seriously and have introduced new ways of working implementing very strict measures across the business:

• ALL collection counters are closed

• Full closure of two (Birmingham Central & Harborne) out of 12 branches to comply with safe working

• Almost all office workers are now either working from home or are separated in accordance with Government guidelines where home working wasn’t possible

• Increased cleaning regime in all areas where staff are based

• Drivers are instructed not to ask for signatures on site, and maintain 2m distance from anyone on site. If this is not possible we support the drivers to abort the delivery

• Gloves and anti-bacterial wipes have been distributed as priority for drivers

• Social Distancing measures are to be followed strictly at all times

• We have reduced working hours to: Mon-Fri 7:30am-4pm, Sat 7:30am-12pm

We continue to review our plans on a daily basis and will post regular updates with any changes.

Following the announcement from the Prime Minister (23/03), we are temporarily closing all EH Smith COLLECTION Trade Counters with immediate effect while we get clarification of the situation.

Our usual DELIVERY SERVICE remains unaffected at this stage.  Please contact branches directly to arrange material deliveries. In order to provide the best possible delivery service we have decided to temporarily close our Birmingham Central and Harborne branches. For any enquiries in this area please complete our contact form.

We are urgently reviewing the latest government guidance and will update customers when we have more information.

The health and well-being of our customers and colleagues remains our top priority.

Despite the escalating situation with COVID-19 it is very much business as usual at EH Smith to ensure an uninterrupted supply of building materials to our customers.

The welfare of our customers and staff is paramount. All branches are following strict precautions and adhering to the current UK Government policy by:

Activating social distancing

Remote working for all suitable staff

Restricted non-essential movements

Intensifying cleaning schedules

Please be assured we are closely monitoring the situation and, currently – we remain OPEN at all branches. We have made some changes which include:

• Customers may notice demarcation areas in front of the counter in order to adhere to the social distancing rules.

• We are now only accepting Card or Account payments – if you would like to apply for an account please click here

If customers are self-isolating but still require building materials, please call your local branch and use their delivery service rather than visiting the depot. Click here to find your nearest branch.
